Our Momentum Catalysts:
Our New York State Licensed Massage Therapists are called Catalysts . We do not call them Massage Therapists because they are so much more. A Momentum Catalyst is an LMT whom is also a Certified Personal Trainer with a background in either Performance Enhancement and/or Corrective Exercise. We don't just talk the talk, we walk the walk with years of experience in the fitness/health field at our disposal. Allow us to work with you and be the catalyst to your specific goals.
Momentum: the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
Catalyst: a person or thing that precipitates an event.
The Owner: David Vargas
David Vargas LMT started his journey into the world of health/fitness after overcoming a childhood lung issue which limited his physical activity. Developing his lung strength through playing the trumpet afforded him the ability to do what everyone else was doing at the time, living. Once the excess weight came off, and interaction with his surroundings became easier, he never looked back. He then Wrestled Competitively and trained in Thai Boxing before going to college where he competed at the National Level in Latin Ballroom Dance. David knew what it felt like to not be able to use his body to its potential, being limited by its own hindered function, and decided to devote his life to making sure he could help others do the same.
After Graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science, he became a Master trainer for 7 years leading him to an integrative medical center where he progressed the exercises initially given by the Physical Therapist, in continuation of their protocols. It was there where his love and appreciation for soft tissue work began, after seeing what it could do. David then chose to attend The Swedish Institute where he graduated with a 4.0 and went on to become the Head of Soft Tissue Analysis and Treatment for the same integrative medical center. Working there gave him the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest healthcare practitioners, allowing him to alter his paradigm, viewing the human body much differently than most other therapists. He then left that Medical Center to Manage the biggest Sports/Medical Massage Center in the NYC for three years before striking out on his own and creating Momentum Sports Recovery.
David always saw the world in terms of motion, beginning with his own lack thereof, and progressing through the years to include Body Mechanics, Compensatory Patterning, Range of Motion, and Faulty Recruitment Patterns to name a few.
"Being able to come to work daily and work with my Momentum Athletes to get ahead of whatever they are dealing with, or helping them stay ahead of the curve when it comes to training is what it's all about. I know it's cliché to say that if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life, but it's true. I'm not just a soft tissue therapist, I'm a part of my Athletes' healthcare team and family. My job isn't to just make them feel better, it's to work with them to create a comprehensive approach to understanding, managing, and getting ahead of what they have going on."
"INVEST IN YOUR BODY AND IT WILL TAKE YOU ANYWHERE"
